Best actor for W.
Brolin initially said no when director Oliver Stone asked him to play George W. Bush. Then he realized that he and Dubya actually share some things in common: Both are sons of famous men, were raised by strong mothers, directionless for much of their lives, found success later than most, and have yet to write the final chapter of their stories. In a disarmingly even-handed performance, Brolin does the impossible he helps us to understand, if not agree with, one of the most enigmatic figures of our time.
Age on nomination day: 40
Did you know? Brolins father, actor James Brolin, also portrayed a U.S. president, Ronald Reagan, in the TV mini-series The Reagans (2003).
