Zoe Cassavetes (left), 'Broken English'

A member of the legendary filmmaking family, Zoe Cassavetes made her feature debut as writer-director with the by-turns breezy and melancholy romantic comedy “Broken English.” Star Parker Posey received the best reviews of her career, but it seems the film’s summer release date may doom it to be left aside from the year-end awards derby. With the exception of the 2008 Spirit Awards, for which Cassavetes has been nominated for best first screenplay.
