1. Duncan Sheik returns to the Iron Horse Music Hall in Northampton on Dec. 12

Recently, Duncan Sheik's life came close to unraveling. In June, on the day his latest album, Covers ’80s, was released, Sheik entered a treatment center for alcohol abuse. He wrote extensively about the experience on his website: "Duncan here, offering you belated apologies for the cancellation of my June tour. The truth is I didn’t do it because I realized I was drinking too much and chose to confront that situation, with the help of family, great friends and some thoughtful, highly qualified professionals."

  11. Adrian Belew Power Trio w/ Stick Men at Iron Horse Music Hall in Northampton

Prog rock is a guilty pleasure. But every so often you need to dust off those Gentle Giant LPs and wave your nerd flag high. Here's a good excuse: Adrian Belew and Tony Levin, who joined Robert Fripp's King Crimson 30 years ago for the Discipline album, are in Northampton Saturday night. First, Levin, Markus Rueter, and Pat Mastelotto (another current Crim) will play a set as Stick Men, followed by Belew's Power Trio (with Julie Slick and Tobias Ralph). Levin, Mastelotto and Belew will then do a trio set of Crimson tunes, followed by all six musicians doing some double trio stuff.

  21. Dinosaur Jr. performs Bug in its entirety at Iron Horse Music Hall

    J. Mascis, Lou Barlow and Emmett Jefferson Murphy III (“Murph”) recorded the first Dinosaur album (the “Jr.” was added later because of a name dispute) at a home studio near Northampton in 1985. Three years later, Bug, their third and last album before Barlow's departure (he's back now), landed the trio a #1 spot on the U.K. independent chart. They'll perform the whole Bug album on Tuesday, with Henry Rollins conducting a live band interview and Thurston Moore (!) on the bill for support.
