1. 'Never Let Me Go,' 'Tillman Story' released on home video

NEVER LET ME GO (2010/C/Directed by Mark Romanek/Starring Carey Mulligan, Andrew Garfield, Keira Knightley, Charlotte Rampling/Fox/Rated R/Drama, Sci-Fi/104 minutes/Available on: DVD and Blu-ray):When a classroom of 12-year-olds learns they are clones who will be sacrificed to extend the lives of their "originals," the children barely react. This adaptation, based on the novel by Kazuo Ishiguro, takes us through an alternate universe set in the UK during the '80s and '90s. We meet three clones closely linked by their shared upbringing at a boarding school for their kind. At 18, Kathy H (Carey Mulligan) and friends, Ruth (Keira Knightley) and Tommy (Andrew Garfield), move into cottages with other clones. Ruth and Tommy become lovers while Kathy sees other clones through the grisly donation process. As all three await the "completion of their donation cycles," none rails against the unfairness, nor attempts to run away. The rules of this universe drains the life from a tale that is twist on both "Blade Runner," and "The Island," but that lacks the excitement of either. DVD or Blu-ray features: The secrets of Never Let Me Go, The director's on-set photography, Tommy's art, National donor program & Hailsham campaign graphics, English, French or Spanish language tracks, widescreen.

Writer-director James L. Brooks isn't as close to the top of his game here as he was with "Terms of Endearment" and "Broadcast News," but he assembles a winning cast for the tale of an athlete (Reese Witherspoon) who suddenly finds herself with some big choices to make.

7. A Blue Valentine AM at Frankly My Dear…

Frankly My Dear - Orlando Sentinel
Last night was “How Do You Know,” which reminded me of this one in a lot of ways. A James L. Brooks version of that. And today, it's “Blue Valentine,” this holiday season's MPAA rating tempest in a teapot. Looking forward to...

9. Did ‘How Do You Know’ cost $120 million?

This OMG headline from The Hollywood Reporter. Talent costs on James L. Brooks' “How Do You Know” pushed the cost up to $120 million. Oscar winners Reese Witherspoon and Jack Nicholson (THERE'S your $50 million talent tab), with Paul Rudd...

13. Movie Review: How Do You Know

Frankly My Dear - Orlando Sentinel
Too cute, too star-studded and entirely too long, “How Do You Know” is a jocks' romance that offers more proof that James L. Brooks has lost his fastball. The director of “Broadcast News” and “Terms of Endearment”...

15. TRON opens very big, Yogi does OK, How Do You Know bombs

Frankly My Dear - Orlando Sentinel
The James L. Brooks reign of winning, touching and Oscar nominated romantic comedies is pretty much over. “Spanglish” could have done it. But “How Do You Know,” bad reviews, poor box office, drives a stake into his big, warm and...

17. Will ‘TRON’ hit the $40 million mark this weekend?

Frankly My Dear - Orlando Sentinel
The competition is mostly outside its target audience. The movie's been eagerly awaited by generations. The reviews aren't bad. And it's in 3D, bumping the price up so that box office grosses will be heftier. But will “TRON: Legacy” hit that...
