  3. An embarrassment of on-screen riches but so little Emmy gold

Well, it's a good thing I'm not in charge of the Emmys. If I were, this year's telecast would probably be five hours long (and then I'd review it and kvetch about how boring it was). In dramas alone there were just so many great performances this season that I feel like the nominee list should be doubled, a few special awards thrown in and an explanation given for why the winners were chosen.

Robert Rodriguez channels his inner 11-year-old with Shorts, a childish but fun wish fulfillment-fantasy for kids that's equal parts boogers, big messages and product placement.

  13. The last word

We love television. Really, we do. But just like we love our children and our pets, we sometimes don't love its actions. So when a series goes off track or when Emmy voters need a little guidance, we feel it is our duty to set them straight. Out of love. Really.
