  1. News and Notes from the L.A. Film Festival

Hollywood, the site of so many blockbusters, is also the home of the annual Los Angeles Film Festival, which champions cinema's more independent cousins. Zap2it will be on hand for all 11 days to chat with stars and celebrities, consume lobster and martinis and hopefully watch whichever film will become the next "March of the Penguins" or "Sideways."

  3. 'Die Hard' Sequel Gets Long, Q

    Zap2It.com
Maggie Q and Justin Long have signed on for Fox's "Live Free or Die Hard," the Len Wiseman-directed fourth "Die Hard" film. The plot -- which sounds like it's been marinating on the shelf for a decade -- involves a cyberterrorist attempting to shut...

  5. 'Deadwood,' 'Destination' Stars Will 'Die Hard'

    Zap2It.com
The latest addition to 20th Century Fox's ridiculously titled "Live Free or Die Hard" are Timothy Olyphant and Mary Elizabeth Winstead. Len Wiseman ("Underworld") is directing the fourth film in the studio's "Die Hard" franchise, which already has staked...

  7. This blowhard bit is working out great

There are really two John Hodgmans. One is well known to viewers of Comedy Central's "The Daily Show" as the "resident expert" who offers preposterously inaccurate assessments of such things as Alan Greenspan's retirement and Iran's atomic aspirations. He's even more widely familiar to those who have seen Apple Computer's recent spate of ads, in which he appears as the comically fusty PC, stealing the show from actor Justin Long's slacker-cool Mac.

  9. 'Jeepers Creepers'

    Times Staff Writer
Victor Salva's "Jeepers Creepers" has the scariest opening sequence of any horror picture in recent memory. Trish (Gina Philips) and her younger brother Darryl (Justin Long), on spring break from college, have decided to take the long way home through...

  11. Jeepers! This 'Creepers' is really bad

    Tribune staff reporter
1/2 star (out of 4) You might think that even the most dim-witted horror movie would have an internal logic. Monsters and serial killers behave in accordance with their bloody legends, and even their hapless prey have some idea of how to stop their...

  13. Movie review: 'DodgeBall: A True Underdog Story'

    Tribune Movie Reporter
1-1/2 stars (out of 4) The lameness of recent Ben Stiller comedies seems proportional to the amount he mugs in them--and he mugs a ton in "DodgeBall: A True Underdog Story," his fourth stinker of 2004. Stiller--who established himself as one of the...

  15. 'DodgeBall'

Some years back, New Yorker critic Terrence Rafferty condemned the flashy, enjoyably trashy action flick "La Femme Nikita" with a single memorable sentence: "The end of French cinema as we know it." I filed the judgment away with a laugh, chalking up Rafferty's condemnation to high-art snobbery. Earlier this week, I briefly retrieved that indictment after enduring the witless "DodgeBall: A True Underdog Story." It's not the end of American cinema, but it may signal either the end of Ben Stiller's ambitions or the launch of a vendetta against his fans.
