  1. Broadway-style glory shines in 'Anything Goes'

THEATER REVIEW: "Anything Goes" at the Cadillac Palace Theatre ★★★★ ... Sentimental? So shoot me. For that is pretty much the experience ...
Preservationists have their lists of endangered buildings; conservationists, their list of endangered species. I have my list of endangered artistic experiences. You come home from work, exhausted. You rally, dress up a bit. You hop a train or a bus...

  3. Great songs and Broderick's charms in 'Nice Work,' but will you get it?

It most certainly is "Nice Work If You Can Get It," but the new Broadway musical starring Matthew Broderick and Kelli O'Hara is otherwise tough to define. It's not really a jukebox musical, since we don't associate the songs of George and Ira Gershwin with quarters or spinning discs.

  13. Marcy and Zina — with luck, you'll know their names soon

NEW YORK — In the annals of showbiz, the chance encounter between lyricist Marcy Heisler and composer Zina Goldrich 21 years ago may not rank with Rodgers and Hammerstein's first meeting or Lerner linking up with Loewe. But it could prove to be a memorable moment for American musical theater.

  17. A Cole Porter quiz: Anything Goes

In his 1934 review of the frothy musical “Anything Goes,” New York Times drama critic Brooks Atkinson wrote that Cole Porter “has written a dashing score with impish lyrics.” Porter’s singular talent was similarly praised for much of his career and was heralded again in 2011 with a new production of “Anything Goes” that won a Tony as the best revival of a Broadway musical. That production, directed and choreographed by Kathleen Marshall, is on a national tour and makes its way to Los Angeles this week for a six-week run at the Ahmanson Theatre.

  21. Review: 'Anything Goes' is 'the top' at the Ahmanson Theatre

Could tap-dancing possibly be as fun as Rachel York makes it look?  She and the cast of the Roundabout Theatre Company’s Tony-winning Broadway revival of “Anything Goes,” now stopping at the Ahmanson Theatre on its national tour, perform the show’s exuberant title number with such saucy, effortless flair and megawatt smiles that I found myself thinking, “I’m signing up for lessons” — I, who get winded riding an escalator in heels.

  23. Theaters from Burbank to South Pasadena

Shakespeare, Molière, musical romps, contemporary classics, comedies of all Jordi Galcerán's descriptions, cutting-edge new work — theater in Southern California is varied, plentiful and far-flung, from the Old Globe Theatre in San Diego and Center Theatre Group in downtown Los Angeles to Santa Monica's Broad Stage and beyond. It is worth noting, however, that an abundance of eclectic small, midsize and large professional theaters in the San Gabriel and San Fernando Valleys contribute significantly to the mix.
