  5. The Valley Line: A new year and new beginnings

Here we are into the second week of January already. I reluctantly removed the ornaments from my tree, wrapping each one carefully in tissue paper. I always hate putting them away because they are so magical and representative of places I’ve been in the world and memories of family times. It will be an entire year before I see them again.

    Tribune staff reporter
star (out of 4) Mark my words: "Mindhunters" will do for psycho-thrillers what "Showgirls" did for stripper movies. Near the beginning of Renny Harlin's unintentionally hilarious film, a table of young, attractive FBI trainees, out for a post-drill...

  20. 'Mindhunters'

Renny Harlin's "Mindhunters" begins with a deceptive scariness. Two FBI agents and would-be criminal profilers, J.D. (Christian Slater) and Sara (Kathryn Morris), on the track of a serial child-killer, come upon a derelict Victorian hotel in rural Virginia and investigate, discovering a large dining-table set with a child's birthday party frozen in time like Miss Havisham's wedding. There's much detritus strewn everywhere, the place is in shambles, and the basement is full of unspeakable horrors, yet they nab their man — only to discover too late that there's another man.

  22. TV Gal Shares Her Pony Analogy

Let me review for you my pony analogy. When I was a little girl, I wanted a pony and every Christmas I truly believed this would be the year I would walk downstairs and see Casey (yes I had named my imaginary pony) calmly hanging out in the living room eating the carrots I left out for him.
