3. 'Darling Companion' review: Can't really blame the dog for running away

** (out of four)
** (out of four) My wife and I just adopted my in-laws’ 7-year-old dog, an extremely lovable miniature dachshund named Rosie. I am exactly the right person to find warmth in “Darling Companion,” in which Beth (Diane Keaton) rescues a 7-...

7. Upcoming Movies in 2012

When I was asked to come up with movies I was looking forward to in 2012, I was first at a loss. As a critic, I find it a lot of fun to do lists of the best/worst of the previous years; but we try not to watch too many trailers. They give away key plot points and most times at screenings, we’re lucky they don’t show them.

13. Make your Valentine's Day sizzle with steak

There's little that's more romantic than a wonderful dinner enjoyed a deux in a cozy setting. With Valentine's Day in the offing, restaurant phones (and websites) are undoubtedly busy taking reservations for just such tete-a-tetes.

21. 'The Conspirator'

Of all the movies Robert Redford has directed, this one got the least theatrical distribution, but it still reflects the Oscar-winning filmmaker's knack for interesting stories and smart casting. It's the tale of Mary Surratt (played by Robin Wright), charged with involvement in the assassination of President Abraham Lincoln largely because John Wilkes Booth (Toby Kebbell) was a frequent visitor to her boardinghouse.

23. The Rum Diary

I liked this movie, but it’s one of those rare films I like and can hardly recommend to my friends. You either have to be a fan of Hunter S. Thompson or madly in love with Johnny Depp, to really appreciate this. That being said, I was never that big a fan of Thompson. I found his gonzo journalism style to be overrated.
