  1. To see a miserable writer's life on screen, try 'Finding Joy'

With the succcess of Judd Apatow's movies, one stample of romantic comedies has become the loser adult guy who finds love. Once, that guy was a 40-year-old virgin working in an electronics store. Another time, he was a slacker on a bong water-stained...

  5. Go away with Jai Rodriguez

Jai Rodriguez became a household name as the culture vulture on "Queer Eye for the Straight Guy." 9. The rules of engagement

With the possible exception of the Oscar-winning "My Cousin Vinny," it's almost impossible to be nominated for — let alone collect — an Academy Award without a quality effort. But behind every honored movie or performance is an equally (if not more) inspired campaign.

  11. Getting the vote out for 'Bobby'

For a movie that has grossed only $11 million, been panned by half the nation's film critics and is now almost gone from the local megaplexes, one might think that "Bobby" faces an insurmountable climb if it is to capture Academy Awards attention.

  13. Movie review: 'Gigli'

    Chicago Tribune Movie Writer
1 star (out of 4) "Gigli" rhymes with "really," we're told twice in the movie of the same name, and it begins with a "zs" sound, as in "Zsa Zsa." It's the last name of Ben Affleck's dese-dem-dose thug character, Larry Gigli. People mispronounce it. He...

  15. The Big Hit

    FOR THE TIMES
Friday April 24, 1998      Hong Kong director Che-Kirk Wong's first American feature, "The Big Hit," is that rarest of all genre hybrids, the screwball-romantic-action-situation-black comedy. Rare for good reason. Who'd want to see a thing like that?   ...

  17. The Crew

    FOR THE TIMES
Friday August 25, 2000      A shaggy-dog story in support hose, "The Crew" should effect a marked upswing in the opening of IRAs, Keoughs and contributions to 401(k)s. After all, who wants to end up like its four hotel-dwelling wheeze-guys, standing in...

  21. 'My Big Fat Greek Wedding'

    Newsday
There's not a lot of voice-over narration in "My Big Fat Greek Wedding." But what little there is convinces you that the original stage monologue by Nia Vardalos would have been a hoot to hear. You don't have to be Greek to chuckle at the affectionate...
