  1. Emmy campaigning is more competitive than ever

When the producers of "Modern Family" claimed in a full-page Variety ad two years ago that curvaceous star Sofia Vergara would run naked down Sunset Boulevard if the ABC sitcom won the Emmy (it did, and she didn't), it may have seemed as if award campaigning had reached its peak.

Funny and trying, "Maron," which premieres Friday on IFC, stars the comedian and podcaster Marc Maron as comedian and podcaster Marc Maron.

After the coffee. Before searching for a deeper meaning. The Skinny: It's no secret that I'm a fan of "Nashville." However, I'm a little disappointed with where the writers are taking the Juliette Barnes character played by Hayden Panettiere. It feels...

Sarah Silverman is about to follow in the footsteps of Louis C.K. and Wanda Sykes. She's taping a comedy special for HBO. Given HBO's long history of comedy specials, it's a little surprising that this will be Silverman's first. But it's true: though...

  13. Comedian Marc Maron takes a shot on TV

Marc Maron slips into a chair and plunks a tattered, spiral-bound notebook onto the table. The cover, folded back, reveals dense, tight scribbling on ruled paper. Pen in hand, Maron hunches over the notes, looks up for a second to lock eyes by way of greeting, then drops his head back down.

  15. Review: Louis C.K. has some 'Oh My God' moments

It is heartening in a way that perhaps the biggest comic in America &mdash; in a sense of cultural import if not necessarily in income, though he is obviously doing well there too &mdash; is a doughy, bald man of 45. It's heartening both from the aspect of one's own advancing age and as notice that kids these days are not entirely consumed with things made in their own image.

  17. TV picks: Louis C.K., 'Veep,' Wonder Woman, woolly mammoths

<strong>"Louis C.K.: Oh My God" (premieres Saturday, HBO)</strong>. Funny, deep and unsparing of himself, Louis C.K. is arguably the most important comic going, both for his adventures in form -- his FX series "Louie," now on hiatus between its third and fourth seasons, grafts art film, standup and situation comedy -- and his experiments in business. He earned more than $1 million by selling unrestricted-use downloads of his 2011 "Live at the Beacon Theater" straight to fans at $5 a pop; similarly he sold tickets to the tour during which "Oh My God" was taped/filmed/recorded directly through his website, cutting out ticket agency fees and keeping prices low. (One hundred thousand tickets were sold, at $45 per, in 45 hours.) Also in the spirit of giving value for money, it's his habit to burn all his material after a year, so the jokes in this concert, from the Celebrity Theatre in Phoenix, are All Fresh.

  19. Netflix gets into the awards game with the Flixies

Just when you thought awards season was behind us, Netflix decides to get into the game with its own awards. But don't worry, these awards take a realistic look at just how you use Netflix and you won't even have to watch Seth MacFarlane sing about boobs to participate.
