3. Seeing (Shades of) Red on the Oscar Red Carpet

An overcast and slightly chilly day in Los Angeles did nothing to dampen the spirits of Hollywood's elite as they arrived for the 79th annual Academy Awards on Sunday, Feb. 25. Among the trends seen on the red carpet were various shades of red, blush and rose, feather accents, strapless and one-shouldered gowns, bare necks and long, straight hair.

  5. Fast-Paised review: 'Monster House'

Three pubescent teens battle a neighbor's house that has an appetite for people (which doesn't do much for property value). Filmed with the same motion-capture animation as "The Polar Express" and featuring the voices of Steve Buscemi, Maggie Gyllenhaal,...

  7. Movie Review: 'The Dark Knight'

The risk with a movie as good as "The Dark Knight" is overhyping it to the degree that people come out saying, "I was expecting cinema and all I got was a comic book movie." So I'll say that I'm prepared to call "The Dark Knight" the finest comic book...

  9. Red carpet fashion takes low-key turn

The red carpet has always been Hollywood's very own economic forecaster. (We mortals settle for gas prices.) And Sunday night, at the 66th annual Golden Globes, many of the stars arrived in sleek, subdued gowns more suited to the upcoming inauguration than an awards show. There were a few "whoops," but not a lot of "wows" as a wide swath of actresses -- from winner Kate Winslet in YSL to nominee Debra Messing in Zac Posen -- opted for midnight tones and simple silhouettes. Does this portend more layoffs at studios and movies with dogs that die, we can't help but wonder?

  11. Academy Awards blow by blow

Martin Scorsese's gangster epic "The Departed" was named the best picture of 2006 at the 79th annual Academy Awards on Sunday evening at the Kodak Theatre. Scorsese won his elusive first directing Oscar for the film, which also won for adapted screenplay and editing. Its four awards were the most for any film.

  13. No joke: Batman's latest plods toward predictability

    (C) The Dark Knight is a handsome, accomplished piece of work, but it drove me from absorption to excruciation within 20 minutes, and then it went on for two hours more. It's the standard-bearer for the school of comic-book movies that confuses pompousness with seriousness and popular mechanics for drama. It's scaled to be an urban epic about the deterioration of hope and possibility in Batman's hometown, Gotham City (standing in for all Western cities), but there isn't a single stirring or inspired moment in it.

  21. Movie review: The Dark Knight -- 4 out of 5 stars

This Dark Knight is much more than simply Batman 2.0. It's a re-tooling, a re-load of the franchise Christopher Nolan and Christian Bale revived three summer's ago.
