5. Star of 'Mrs. Eastwood & Company' stays focused on the music

Francesca Eastwood is slouched sideways in a chair, her bare feet hanging over the seat's arm. As the 19-year-old toils on her phone — going through old photos and reading about slavery on Wikipedia — she maintains conversation with half-sister Morgan. Both young women have recently emerged from a press junket at a luxury hotel and are noticeably annoyed.

  10. Beverly Hills Hotel marks 100 years as stars' discreet retreat

When he stayed at the Beverly Hills Hotel, the famously reclusive Howard Hughes would have roast beef sandwiches left for him in a crook of a tree, go on 2 a.m. treasure hunts for freshly baked pineapple upside-down cakes that were hidden on the grounds, and keep a phone booth inside his bungalow.

  14. Television review: 'Mrs. Eastwood & Company'

In an odd yet understandable marketing strategy, the folks behind E!'s new reality show "Mrs. Eastwood & Company" have spent a lot of pre-premiere publicity time explaining what the show isn't. Which is to say, Clint Eastwood. The legendary actor and director will appear in but a few episodes and then only briefly. He will not, for instance, be slamming any doors or engaging in filmed therapy sessions with his wife, Dina, around whom the show revolves (see title.)

  20. Outside opinion: austerity, guns and affirmative action

The great thing about individual states, as well as separate countries, is that they're all laboratories of government conducting experiments in social and economic policies -- and in the marketplace of government ideas, the most successful ones can be copied by everybody else. That's why the United Kingdom's experiment with austerity should be of great interest to Americans as we approach the presidential election. I've seen several commentators weigh in on this, but one of the most clear-headed analyses can be found today on Al Jazeera.
