  1. VOD Spotlight: Jeremy Renner is on the run in “The Bourne Legacy”

    Channel Guide Magazine
How many good Part 4’s can you remember? Between that, and knowing that the lead star isn’t taking part, you could be excused for thinking that The Bourne Legacy seems like a clunker from the outset. Words like “cash grab” and &#...

  3. For film fest, is 'good enough' good enough?

My own feelings about the Chicago festival, the 48th edition of which concluded Thursday, are necessarily shaped by individual taste as well as equally subjective notions of relevance. Does the event matter? Is it as vital as it could be, should be? Tough queries, tougher to answer.
Is the Chicago International Film Festival good, good enough or not quite that? This is the question. This is the question to be asked of any festival, every perennial cultural mainstay in every city. It's the way to keep us all honest, whatever dog we...

  5. 'The Bourne Legacy'

Another covert operative plots against the agency that apparently wants to eliminate him in this expansion of the screen franchise based on Robert Ludlum's novels. Succeeding Matt Damon in the series, Jeremy Renner builds upon the action-movie cred he started to establish in "Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol," playing the operative who decides to turn the tables on his pursuers with the help of a similarly targeted government doctor (Rachel Weisz).

  7. Even without star power, 'Burn' still smolders

Since its 1987 premiere, Lanford Wilson's drama "Burn This," about four New Yorkers coming to terms with tragedy, has been a showcase for several shades of Pale. The role of Pale, the coked-up, motor-mouthed restaurant manager who invades the Manhattan loft formerly occupied by his late brother, gave John Malkovich ample rein to be, well, Malkovichian in the original Broadway production (though it was his Steppenwolf comrade Joan Allen who won a Tony for the show) and allowed Edward Norton to tap into his feral side in a 2002 revival.

"EVERTHING I learned, I learned from the movies," said Audrey Hepburn. BELIEVE IT or not! I have seen three movies I actually liked in this era of diminished movie-going. (Hollywood itself is practically on the ropes from loss of planning, self-...
