1. Under the New Mexico sky, 'The Lone Ranger' rides again

ALBUQUERQUE — Johnny Depp was the picture of breezy relaxation as he walked bare-chested across the "Lone Ranger" film set in the high desert of New Mexico last May — despite the punishing midday glare and the pelting sand from a brewing windstorm.

  7. With 'Harvest,' Michael Shannon goes back to his roots

Michael Shannon is riding a bit of a hot streak. His portrayal of a manic survivalist in “Take Shelter” garnered all sorts of acclaim last year. He's a standout in the otherwise somewhat muddled spiritual drama “Grace” on Broadway. He did pretty nicely with "The Iceman" earlier this year. And he’ll be reporting for Zod duty in “Man of Steel” this summer.”

  9. Movie review: 'Skyfall' shows James Bond still sharp and fit at 50

If "Skyfall" is the new 50, James Bond is handling it remarkably well. Five decades after the first cinematic incarnation of 007, novelist Ian Fleming's agent provocateur, the spy-craft in the new film is sharper, the intrigue deeper, the beauties brighter (more brain, less bare).

  13. It's still music to Dan Wallin's ears

Just before noon on a clear fall day, the Newman stage on the 20th Century Fox lot is alive with bright lights, hovering microphones and a full 105-piece orchestra. It's one of the final scoring sessions for "Mission: Impossible — Ghost Protocol," and director Brad Bird and composer Michael Giacchino are listening closely to the music when a man with a snow-white ponytail and baseball cap leans over to whisper in Giacchino's ear. The composer nods and asks the conductor, Tim Simonec, to take it from the top, with a shade less emphasis on the piano.

  19. In scripted television, fashion rules

Television takes the spotlight starting Monday at the upfronts in New York City, when most networks will announce which shows live and die. Many decisions will hinge on issues of substance — ratings and cost and critical acclaim. But no one should discount the role that style plays in a successful show.
