1. St. Thomas Aquinas takes audience to death row in 'Dead Man Walking'

An ominous and gripping score diffused through the theatre as light passing through prison bars was reflected on the curtain. As the curtain rose and the lights dimmed, one was, all at once, thrust into the world of the Louisiana State Penitentiary’...

5. New spin on old tale with 'Jack the Giant Slayer'

Opening Friday Jack the Giant Slayer One thing this current run of blockbuster fairytales inspired by Tim Burton’s "Alice in Wonderland" has taught us is how very hard it is to be Tim Burton. Multiple versions of "Snow White," a comic splatter...

7. Film review: 'Snitch' review not solid as 'The Rock'

"Snitch" is the epitome of a "star vehicle." In this case, the star is Dwayne Johnson. There is no reason to see "Snitch" other than Dwayne Johnson. I've seen some movies lately that offer zero reasons to see them, so it's fair to say that Dwayne Johnson is better than nothing. Still, this movie was made entirely as an excuse to put Johnson's face on a vaguely thrilling poster and get his fans into a theater to see something, anything, starring their champion.

9. Film Review: 'Snitch' and its star the Rock are toned down just enough

There's been a big, new blow-'em-up action film nearly every week so far in this admittedly young year. Nearly all have been intended to showcase a 60-ish star — Stallone, Schwarzenegger, Willis — and nearly all were disappointments. Jason Statham's “Parker” was better; and Dwayne Johnson's “Snitch” is better yet. Are those two stars — 45 and 40, respectively — the new guard, coming to rescue us from the thought of “Die Hard 6”?

11. 'Snitch,' starring Dwayne Johnson, is capably noirish ★★★

Large, in charge and nobody's little Margie: Dwayne Johnson takes on the drug kingpins in "Snitch." Place your bets!

13. 'Snitch' review: Real problem, outrageous solution

* (out of four)
* (out of four) If I know ruthless drug dealers (which I don't, but still), I really don't think you can just approach their operation and say you want in. When trust is paramount, a new face, particularly one attached to a body the size of human anvil...

21. 'Robot and Frank'

It literally is a robot and Frank - as in, an android and Frank Langella - in this enjoyably low-key tale that's more sentimental drama than sci-fi. The ever-expert Langella plays a former thief whose children worry that he needs regular assistance in his daily life, so instead of putting him in a nursing home, they get him a mechanical companion.
