Try triggering some empathy

The limited perspective that some are presenting as to why trigger warnings in college classrooms are unnecessary have prompted me to write. ("Cautions on 'trigger warnings,'" Letters, May 24) The violence depicted in books and film today are far more graphic than they were even 10 years ago. "Taxi Driver" was stunning because of its violence, but the works of today often surpass that level of violence. I trust that most critics of these warnings have never been raped or threatened with death. Likely, they likely have never cowered behind a desk or under a theater seat while a mentally ill person has shot and killed several others. To deny the impact...
