HURON (AP) — Eastern South Dakota experienced record-setting heat on Wednesday.
The National Weather Service in Sioux Falls says southerly air that flowed into the region ahead of a cold front pushed the high temperature in Huron to 93 degrees, breaking the record of 92 degrees set 114 years ago in 1897.
The mercury also reached 93 degrees in Mitchell, which tied that city’s record for the date. The previous record also was in 1897.
The state experienced a cool-down on Thursday, with highs only in the 60s.
