  1. Levitt Pavilion: Breaking camp, becoming All Stars

It's hard to think of a more harrowing inspiration for a band than that of Sierra Leone's Refugee All Stars. The West African group met in a Guinean refugee camp after fleeing the brutal, decade-long civil war in their native Sierra Leone. But rather than lose hope, the members — who lost family, friends and limbs in the conflict — found a way to uplift their people through music.

  10. Naro screens Blues Brothers movie tonight with intro by tribute band

Think of <a href="http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0080455/" target="_blank">The Blues Brothers</a> as the original soul revival act -- beating Amy Winehouse to the punch by a couple of decades. While the fictional band's concept and impact has been watered down by time and some awful sequels, the original film's still great.

  13. Thanks to 'Mad Men' and Liz Taylor, the cat-eye is back

    All The Rage
On “Mad Men,” Don Draper's wife, Megan, knows how to embellish her 1960s regalia with not just a sky-high architectural bouffant but with inky cat-eye eyeliner, reminiscent of Sophia Loren or Brigette Bardot back in the day. And, thanks in...

  15. Someone on Wikipedia Doesn't Like Amy Winehouse

The first anniversary of Amy Winehouse's death is fast approaching. Since I myself just turned 28, I was celebrating not making it into the "27 Club" and decided to peruse Wikipedia's entry on the concept. There is a list of musicians who've kicked the...

The most underrated movie in 2008 was <em>Lymelife</em>. Director Derick Martini took the father/son from that movie &ndash; Alec Baldwin and Rory Culkin &ndash; and put them in the story about a southern girl running away from home. Hearing that girl was Chloe Grace Moretz (<em>Hugo, Kick-Ass</em>), I was sure this would be the most underrated movie of this year. I was a bit let down.
