Review: Two Door Cinema Club at Virgin Mobile FreeFest 2011
Two Door Cinema Club perform at the 2011 Virgin Free Fest at Merriweather Post Pavilion. (Josh Sisk, Special to The Baltimore Sun / September 9, 2011)
Two Door played a tight set of jangly indie-rock, which at times recalled Vampire Weekend at its quickest (think "A-Punk") and Bloc Party. Knowing the group's material wasn't necessary (although the crowd was full of fans, including many girls in Wayfarers singing along to every word) because it felt familiar. Nothing groundbreaking, but effective, as the music was sturdily built on concise hooks, a pounding rhythm section and noodling guitars. Timble announced the group was putting the finishing touches on its second album before launching into a new song called "Sleep Alone." If the track is any indication of the next album, it won't be a polarizing, experrimental disc. The crowd didn't seem to mind.
