Cyndi Lauper and Dr. John

Cyndi Lauper, the new-wave pop star of the '80s, is singing the blues these days with her latest album, "Memphis Blues." Lauper teamed with some of the big names in blues for this album too, including B.B. King and Charlie Musselwhite. And for this "From Memphis to Mardi Gras" tour she has heavy-duty blues dude Dr. John co-headlining.

Why go: </b>Lauper was no '80s gimmick. She has a real voice, and here's where you can hear it with all the "She Bop" turned down.

Reconsider: </b>Sometimes "Girls Just Want to Have Fun" is all you really want to hear.

Details: </b>8 p.m. Friday at Paramount Theatre, 23 E. Galena Blvd., Aurora; $59-$69; 630-896-6666, paramountaurora.com
