1. In 'Four Christmases,' Seth Gordon explores a season's gratings

To some, it might seem a bit of a stretch for the director of an odd and obscure documentary about the '80s arcade game Donkey Kong to become the man in charge of the big-budget holiday-season comedy " Four Christmases," starring Vince Vaughn and Reese Witherspoon. Even the movie's 32-year-old filmmaker, Seth Gordon, describes it as an "unprecedented, staggering, irrational leap."

3. Buddy Miller, Jim Lauderdale mix styles and fun at Lincoln Hall

Buddy Miller and Jim Lauderdale made proficiency look easy Wednesday at a crowded Lincoln Hall. The Nashville outlaws and longtime friends staged a clinic in mixing country, R&B, rockabilly and other Americana-related styles on tunes notable for their simplicity and familiarity. In between songs, the duo exchanged comedic banter and stories, reinforcing a casual modesty that gave the 95-minute concert the laidback feeling of a private back-porch session.

7. 'West of Memphis': Trio still seeking justice ★★★

For astonishing injustice put to rest, at long last, the moviegoer has at least two options. One: "Les Miserables." And two: "West of Memphis," a strong, blood-boiling documentary from director Amy Berg, who made the similarly fine "Deliver Us From Evil," about a defrocked Catholic priest's appalling crimes and those of his protectors.

9. Buddy Miller, Jim Lauderdale take 30-year journey to first album together

Buddy Miller and Jim Lauderdale are a couple of Nashville mavericks who’ve written, sang, played on or produced some of the best records of the last 25 years. They’re best friends who live just a few blocks from each other in Nashville, and yet they’ve never made an album together – until now.

11. Dixie Chick Uncertain About Return To Country

Natalie Maines will reunite with The Dixie Chicks to perform at Canadian country music festival Calgary Stampede this summer. CMT caught up with Natalie recently to ask her how she’s feeling about country music, after years of tension with some of the genre’s fans. “You know what? It’s, it’s kinda like going back to your abusive husband. I’m just not feeling it I’m sorry.” Natalie plans to release a solo album, co-produced by singer-songwriter Ben Harper. The title track, “Mother,” is a Pink Floyd cover and sets the tone for what Natalie says is something very different from her Chicks music. Look for that one to hit stores on May 7th.

17. 'West of Memphis' review: Haunting no matter how much you already know

*** (out of four)
*** (out of four) The moral of the story, among many others in “West of Memphis,” is that there’s always more to the story. This controversial case would have been totally different if not for turtles. (You’ll see.) A deeply...

21. Dixie Chicks Ready For A Comeback?

The future of the Dixie Chicks still remains uncertain after Natalie Maines sat down with her pal Howard Stern to discuss the group recently. She tells the talk-show host that she doesn’t “feel like it’s the Dixie Chicks time.” She added, “I feel like things were tainted permanently. So, I struggle with going out on five Grammys or going out – petering out.” Natalie also confesses that it’s scary to think about the power country music fans have after the group’s infamous onstage comment about President George W. Bush in 2003. Either way - Natalie is “still in the Dixie Chicks” and they “haven’t broken up!” The group will make a couple of rare live appearances this summer.
