  7. 'American Idol': Amber rocks it best

They sure do say "love" a lot on "<a href="http://www.americanidol.com/">American Idol,</a>" and I don't love that gushing.
    Staff writer
They sure do say "love" a lot on "American Idol," and I don't love that gushing. I also don't love forcing contestants to sing song styles they’ll never perform. Rock night was a bad night for the last two men left. Burnell Taylor was in the...

    Liz Smith
"I HATE the conventional wisdom that men are supposedly complete pieces of s--t and it's our job as women to put up with them. Men are just as sensitive and easily victimized as women are ... that drives me nuts. We're all humans and doing human stuff."...

  17. New Riders of the Purple Sage Perform at FTC's StageOne in Fairfield on March 16

The New Riders of the Purple Sage got their start when songwriter John Dawson and fledgling pedal steel player Jerry Garcia teamed up to play some country music in coffee shops. Later that year lead guitarist John Nelson joined them, and before too long they had a full band supplemented by other Grateful Dead members Phil Lesh and Mickey Hart. While on the Festival Express tour across Canada, alongside acts like Janis Joplin, the Band and the Flying Burrito Brothers (and the Dead), they recruited pedal steel player Buddy Cage from the group Ian and Sylvia to replace an increasingly-busy Garcia. Dawson passed away in 2009, but Nelson and Cage are still at it today with a new set of bandmates. They'll be at Fairfield Theatre Company's StageOne Saturday night to play cowboy tunes like "Panama Red" that hearken back to the days of <em>American Beauty</em>-era psychedelic country music. <strong></strong>

  21. 'American Idol' Crystal Bowersox still battling for fame

By the time Crystal Bowersox made it onto "American Idol" it was the show's ninth season, and even the winners had learned not to expect much. Bowersox was one of the show's most beloved contestants &mdash; a belter in the mode of Janis Joplin, she was a scruffy single mom with a tough upbringing who once busked on the streets of Chicago.
