1. Leon Russell & Little Feat Playing Shows at The Klein and the Capitol Theatre

Leon Russell left home at 17 to tour with Jerry Lee Lewis. He anchored George Harrison's Concert for Bangladesh in 1971. Elton John loves him. Little Feat have played their own blend of New Orleans swamp boogie since 1969, and Jimmy Page once called them his favorite American band. They both play together on the same bill, twice this week: Friday at the Klein in Bridgeport and Tuesday at the Cap in Port Chester.

  5. 'Million Dollar Quartet' at the Bushnell Celebrates Elvis, Johnny Cash and '50s Rock

Good luck keeping track of all the recent, plot-thin musicals thrown together to celebrate a certain artist or genre (Jersey Boys, anyone?). But you might find it even harder to suppress your excitement over Million Dollar Quartet (pictured), a smash-hit show inspired by a famous mid-'50s Sun Records session when Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis and Carl Perkins showed up in the same room together. "Blue Suede Shoes," "That's All Right," "Great Balls of Fire" and "Walk the Line," naturally, are featured showstoppers. The show drops in at Hartford's Bushnell for six evening shows and two matinees.

  9. The 2012 Oxford American Music Issue: Stocking Stuffer for Music Geeks

Every year when the venerable Oxford American releases its annual music issue -- and its accompanying CD -- I’m blown away by the scope of the project, the deep research, the top-notch writing, the curatorial genius, the style and sense of the layout. It’s probably the best stocking stuffer for any music fan on your list. (Some have compared it to the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue for music obsessives.) It’s the magazine I most look forward to getting each year.

  13. Billy Woodward is more than just 1 of 100 Elvises

Two years ago, Billy Woodward was just another young guy channeling Elvis — in a place that featured more Elvises per square foot than perhaps anywhere else in the world. But among the scores of singers who made the 2010 Night of 100 Elvises possible, Woodward alone would be taking his act to Broadway in the coming months.
