1. The Stones, Batdorf and Stanley-style

John Batdorf and James Lee Stanley will appear on the radio Saturday in Laguna Beach to play mellow, harmony-drenched folk tunes — the kind you listen to on a lazy afternoon with a sweater, a cup of mocha and a cat napping at the foot of the couch.

  7. Nicholas Tremulis book 'For the Baby Doll' celebrates life and love

It may not rank with literature's greatest opening lines — “Call me Ishmael”; “It was a pleasure to burn”; or “Many years later, as he faced the firing squad, Colonel Aureliano Buendia was to remember that distant afternoon when his father took him to discover ice”* — but the first sentences of Nicholas Tremulis' new 10-page memoir are undeniably arresting: “When I was 4 years old, I wanted to be music. Not play it. Be it.”

  13. Beyond the usual 'burger bar' label

Appreciating Three Aces in Little Italy requires two approaches: one for the burger bar identity locals know it for, and the other, a surprisingly refined Nightwood-esque restaurant waiting to be embraced by greater Chicago. The first squares with this column's mission of eating cheaply. The second makes a case for spending a few more dollars for an under-the-radar chef with an emerging voice. That said, I'd still prefer you read both.

  23. Jagger Named Most Stylish

Mick Jagger has been named the most stylish rock star of all time by lifestyle website Complex. He leads their top 50 list ahead of Prince, David Bowie, Kurt Cobain, Sid Vicious and Keith Richards. Complex say of Jagger: “Hands-down one of the best-dressed musicians of all-time, he definitely set the bar for flamboyant frontmen. From his crazy stage antics to his bad boy edge, his style reflected his personality perfectly: it was something that needed to be tamed, but functioned best when it was wild. “Even today, he wears silk scarves and suits with more rakish appeal than most men – and he’s pushing 70.” John Lennon, Jimi Hendrix, Elvis, David Byrne and Alice Cooper make the top 20 while, further down the list, Slash, Keith Moon, Lemmy, Johnny Rotten, Freddie Mercury, Billy Gibbons and Axl Rose appear.
