James Conlon, the Los Angeles Opera’s music director and conductor, will step down next year from another prominent post, music director of the Ravinia Festival, Chicago’s summer equivalent of the 'Hollywood Bowl. Ravinia Festival officials announced Monday that Conlon has extended his contract for one more year and will lead its resident orchestra, the Chicago Symphony, for six more performances next July and August.
