Feb. 7: Sharon Van Etten, 'Tramp'

If you listen to one song on Sharon Van Etten's new album, make it "Serpents." It's louder and faster and more like a rock song than you'd expect from this Brooklyn songstress. Her haunting tone surely will ensnare you like, well, a serpent might. "Tramp's" collaborators read like a who's who of indie rock: The National, The Walkmen, Doveman and Wye Oak all had a hand in what is sure to be a big year for Van Etten. -- Sara Stewart
