*1/2 (out of four)
Andrew Bird has a fever. Andrew Bird is tired from touring. Boo freaking hoo. This for-diehard-fans-only documentary captures the Chicago singer/violinist/whistler on his '09 tour supporting "Noble Beast," interspersed with Bird spending time on his farm and complaining about various aspects of being an artist. The brilliant musician has a great voice and seemingly no perspective on the world outside himself; if he did, he'd realize that plenty of people and musicians have it much worse--his illness doesn't even prevent him from performing--and his music would be infinitely better without all the pointless whistling. Rather than an insightful profile of a local hero, "Fever Year" only confirms his status as art rock's annoying, self-important professor.
