WEST HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — When Chris Tucker and Jon Voight are grooving side by side to Rick James' "Give It To Me, Baby," you know the surreal dream that is the Vanity Fair post-Oscars party is playing out again.

  5. Waging heavy cloudiness

What do you expect from a rock star? I just closed the back cover of Neil Young's “Waging Heavy Peace,” his big anticipated memoir (of sorts), clocking in at 500 pages (75 shy of the rock star-memoir mountain peak established by Keith Richards' “Life”); then I walked around the block; listened to his album “After the Goldrush” on my iPod from beginning to end; checked on the Blu-Ray price of “The Neil Young Archives Vol. 1” on Amazon (still $350); thought about whether I could make an Orange Julius at home; double-checked the date of Neil Young and Crazy Horse's show at the United Center (Oct. 11); admired the library book-spine design of “Waging Heavy Peace”; flipped to a random page and read a random line (“I am fascinated by the power of nature”); stood up, went out, got coffee, returned, sat in front of the book I just finished and tried to remember if I read that correctly — Young once lived in a cabin with a band featuring Rick James on vocal and the cabin was attacked by polar bears?

  7. Critic's Notebook: A midyear look at some of the best music of 2011 (so far)

    Pop & Hiss
It doesn’t make sense in 2011 to try and count the number of CDs released because doing so is only one measure of the volume. Toss in mixtapes, thumb drives, vinyl, Bandcamp pages, Twitter links to Mediasphere downloads, streams, rips,......

  9. Dwight Howard, Stan Van Gundy cracking wise at shootaround

Orlando Magic BasketBlog - Orlando Sentinel
Dwight Howard's impersonations are much-renowned. Charles Barkley. Rick James. Stan Van Gundy. Shaq. Arnold Schwarzenegger. No one is off limits — not even the kindest, gentlest big man in the NBA: Adonal Foyle. After the jump, you must check out...

  11. Snoop Dogg, Mike Epps team up for 'Imagine That!' show Wednesday at Gibson Amphitheatre

    Pop & Hiss
Rapper Snoop Dogg and comedian-actor-rapper Mike Epps don’t want to give away a lot about what audiences will encounter in “Imagine That!,” the collaborative live show they’re bringing to the Gibson Amphitheater on Wednesday. But it’s safe to...

  15. Shaunie O’Neal wants 10 seasons of Basketball Wives

Sentinel Sports Now - Orlando Sentinel
Pimping is alive and well. Meet Rick James Shaunie O'Neal. That is the only conclusion one can come to after viewing the reunion shows of Basketball Wives Season 2 in which O'Neal hired these unfortunate women to degrade themselves on national television....

  17. Album review: Snoop Dogg's 'Tha Doggumentary'

    Pop & Hiss
Twenty years into his career, the sinewy, menacing Snoop Doggy Dogg of the LBC exists only in a distant haze of hydraulics and weed. His name’s been truncated and his brand is bedrock. He’s a pitchman for fruit-flavored malt liquor......

  19. Erykah Badu and Flying Lotus play surprise DJ sets at Low End Theory

    Pop & Hiss
You could tell from the trail of the tweets. All week long, Flying Lotus had been sporadically updating his 50,000+ plus followers on his recording sessions with the reigning queen of psychedelic soul, Erykah Badu. “Day 3 on the album......

  21. Album review: Black Eyed Peas, 'The Beginning'

    Turn It Up
1.5 stars (out of 4) No contemporary pop group understands the power of cross-promotion, branding and product placement quite like the Black Eyed Peas, so it should come as no surprise that their latest single plays like a free ad......
