1. Mick Taylor helps Rolling Stones recapture glory days

If you liked the way the Rolling Stones sounded back in the late 1960s and early '70s -- darker and bluesier than more recent conjurings -- you have a chance to hear that signature growl once again.

  3. Stones Open Tour With Surprise Guests

There was no doubt the Rolling Stones provided a great deal of satisfaction to the lucky audience members at the band’s 50 and Counting tour kickoff show Friday in Los Angeles, where the group was joined onstage by some very surprising guests. Pop rock band No Doubt lead singer Gwen Stefani traded lyric lines with Mick Jagger on “Wild Horses,” and country superstar and American Idol judge Keith Urban traded guitar licks with Keith Richards and Ron Wood on “Respectable.” To no one’s surprise, former Stones guitarist Mick Taylor lent his old bandmates a hand, lending his guitar work to “Midnight Rambler.” The band’s two-hour-plus set also included “It’s Only Rock and Roll,” “Gimme Shelter,” “Honky Tonk Woman,” “Miss You,” “Sympathy for the Devil,” “You Can’t Always Get What You Want,” “Jumpin Jack Flash,” and two interesting choices, the rarely performed “Factory Girl” and “Emotional Rescue,” a tune Jagger said they’d “never done onstage.”

  5. Review: The Rolling Stones rock Staples in first gig of tour

The first measures heard at Staples Center as the Rolling Stones began their 26th (give or take) concert in Los Angeles didn’t include Keith Richards’ riffs, Mick Jagger’s sweet falsetto, Ron Wood’s delicate guitar lines or Charlie Watts’ snare snaps.

  7. Rolling Stones invade Echo Park, perform an hour of classics

During 50 years of performing, the Rolling Stones have done some peach gigs: They’ve stood before Hells Angels at Altamont, sold out Wembley Stadium and Madison Square Garden, gigged the Palladium in Hollywood, at the Santa Monica Civic Auditorium for "The T.A.M.I. Show" and countless rounds at the Forum. Until Saturday night, though, the band had never played Echo Park.

  9. For Mick Jagger and Keith Richards, Rolling Stones on new ground

The 50th anniversary of the Rolling Stones' birth in 1962 has had no shortage of commemorative activities: Last year the group was the subject of a retrospective film documentary, a triple CD survey of their recorded output and a handful of celebratory concerts in England and northeastern U.S.

  13. The Stones, Batdorf and Stanley-style

John Batdorf and James Lee Stanley will appear on the radio Saturday in Laguna Beach to play mellow, harmony-drenched folk tunes — the kind you listen to on a lazy afternoon with a sweater, a cup of mocha and a cat napping at the foot of the couch.

  21. Review: Rock legends take over Sandy concert

Critiquing the broadcast of the 12-12-12 Sandy benefit concert on Wednesday night is like assessing the food at a bake sale: Maybe the muffins are oversalted or the cookies are stale, but that's not the point. The point is charity and drawing attention to the cause.
