Cassadega: A center for psychics and spiritualists( PHOTO BY JACOB LANGSTON/ORLANDO SENTINEL )
The mission-revival-style Cassadega Hotel has been the gathering spot for mediums and psychics since it was built as a winter retreat in the 1920s, after a fire destroyed the original hotel in Cassadaga, built in the late 1800s. There have been ghost sightings in Room 22, seances, table-tipping seminars and metaphysical workshops in the front parlor.
Clerks at the hotel often joke that Room 22 is double-booked. An Irish tenor purportedly lived and died there in the 1930s. According to local lore, his presence is marked by a strong smell of cigars and gin. But if you go to Cassadega, itÂ’s the only hotel in town, so go with the flow. Besides, this central Florida community has long been the center of psychics and spiritualists, so the ghost will help you get in the mood. |
