  5. 'Gimme the Loot' director says film 'hit the jackpot'

With its loose, freewheeling style, the unassuming "Gimme the Loot" has already led something of a charmed life. The film picked up the grand jury prize when it premiered at the South by Southwest film festival last year, going on to play the prestigious New Directors/New Films series in New York and be an official selection at the Cannes Film Festival. It was then nominated for two Spirit Awards, earning writer-director Adam Leon the "Someone to Watch" award.
This post has been corrected. See below for details.

  7. Butler: 'Olympus Has Fallen' is really a tale of 'redemption'

If you head out to see the Gerard Butler action movie “Olympus Has Fallen” this weekend, you’re probably going for the pyrotechnics: The White House is blown to smithereens, the Washington Monument dramatically implodes, many bad guys die violently.

  9. Building a bigger Burger Records at the Burgerama festival

At around 1 p.m. Tuesday, Sean Bohrman of Burger Records picked up the phone in his label's office and pleaded for mercy. “Can you call me back in a couple hours?” he asked a reporter. “We just drove 20 hours straight from Texas after South by Southwest. We got home like an hour ago and haven't eaten anything, and honestly we're kind of delirious.”

  11. Album review: Brian McKnight's masterful 'More Than Words'

At  South by Southwest in Austin, Texas, last week, Justin Timberlake diverted a huge amount of attention from the kind of up-and-coming acts the music fest was founded to spotlight. But if the pop superstar's intimate club gig Saturday night prevented someone from seeing the latest Animal Collective clone, well, I'm OK with that. The latest Animal Collective clone probably isn't any good.

  13. Brie Larson is everywhere at SXSW

    — Sometimes it seems no film festival is complete without an "it" girl — a Parker Posey, Zooey Deschanel, Greta Gerwig, Brit Marling or Elizabeth Olsen to encapsulate the current mood. This year's South by Southwest, which opened Friday, may already have one: Brie Larson.
