  5. Mardi Gras, Grammy red carpet and The Walking Dead

Welcome to Mardi Gras week. Even on a Monday, Internet users have plenty to gawk at as New Orleans avoids allowing a celebration to get in the way of a shooting, the Pope resigns for the  first time since the Middle Ages, and Jack White brings down (maybe) the wrath of the FCC.

  7. Frank Ocean atop new R&B wave at Grammys

Frank Ocean is that rare artist whom polar opposites — skeptical tastemakers in it for the art and music-industry insiders obsessed with chart position — can agree on. Ocean's major-label debut, "Channel Orange," recently found itself comfortably atop the annual Village Voice poll of more than 700 critics nationwide. And Ocean is up for six awards at the 55th annual Grammys, which will be announced Sunday in Los Angeles (7 p.m. on CBS).

  17. Suzanne Vega's weird streak is still working

Every now and then, Suzanne Vega fires up the Internet to see what "Tom's Diner" has been up to lately. The singer-songwriter first put the "da-deh-da-deh" a cappella track on her hit 1987 album "Solitude Standing," and it traveled far beyond her expectations. British remixers DNA turned it into an electronic dance hit a few years later, and German audio engineers used it as a test case for a new format called MP3. "What 'Tom's Diner' taught me was that my audience would accept something weirder from me, and that made me happy," Vega recalls. "I realized I had a wider audience than I originally imagined."
