After a highly successful co-headlining fall 08 tour with Jenny Owen Youngs, Vanguard Recording artist Greg Laswell continues to crisscross the country in support of his latest album, Three Flights From Alto Nido, which debuted at No. 23 on Billboards Top Heatseekers chart. The tour kicked-off on January 9th at Hotel Caf in Los Angeles, and then Greg will meet up with Jenny Owen Youngs in Boston on January 14th, where theyll do an east coast string of shows. In February, hell take Jesca Hoop on the road with him for a series of West Coast dates.
How The Day Sounds, the current single has been selected by Starbucks and iTunes for the Pick of the Week program for the week of February 16th. Customers at more than 7,000 Starbucks company-operated locations in the U.S. will receive a complimentary download card redeemable for the track on the iTunes Store. The songs accompanying video, directed by Autumn DeWilde and featuring Elijah Wood, won the Best Music Video award at the San Diego Film Festival and can be seen at VH1.com, Yahoo!, YouTube (where its generated over 300,000 views.)
A bonus track of Laswells cover of Cyndi Laupers Girls Just Want To Have Fun was just tipped by Perez Hilton as absolutely ravishing. The track doesnt appear on the album, but you can check it out here:
Three Flights From Alto Nido, a featured title in Barnes & Nobles DISCOVER program, has been well received across the boards. Filter founder/publisher Alan Miller included the album in his Top 10 list for 2008 while the Los Angeles Times praised its melodic marvels that lift the spirit and Blurt declared it one of the loveliest albums released so far this year.
With songs licensed by Greys Anatomy, Without A Trace, Cold Case, Numb3rs, Smallville, One Tree Hill, The Hills and, most recently, 90210, Laswell has long been a favorite of music supervisors. All this activity attracted the attention of Entertainment Weekly, which featured Greg in its recent Radio on the TV piece, noting These days, the stars of the small screen arent just actors. The same musical acts seem to keep popping up.
Exemplary of the new wave of singer-songwriters emerging from the scene at L.A.s Hotel Caf, Laswell was tapped as the inaugural artist for Whole Foods Artist Discovery Series, and as a Clear Channel NEW! Artist to Watch at Alternative, Triple A and Hot AC formats. He appeared on NPRs World Caf earlier this year and has won the support of numerous other tastemaker stations including Los Angeles KCRW and Indie 103.1, WEQX (Albany), WXDX (Pittsburgh) and KEDJ (Phoenix) as well as Sirius XM.
