<p style="font-size:14px;margin-bottom:12px;">Hailed as the "Afro-American answer to Woodstock," the 1972 Wattstax Music Festival, organized by Memphis's Stax Records to commemorate the seventh anniversary of the Watts riots, allowed viewers to glimpse the brilliance of Richard Pryor, the charisma of a young Jesse Jackson and some great musical turns by the Staple Singers, Rufus Thomas, Kim Weston, Johnnie Taylor, the Bar-Kays, Isaac Hayes and Albert King.
