  8. Where to stay on your Chicago family vacation

Generally, the better located a hotel in Chicago, the more expensive it is, with hotels along North Michigan Avenue's leading the luxury pack. But there are a growing number of budget chain hotels off that avenue, and others close to Museum Campus (that wonderful lake shore accumulation of museums that includes the Shedd Aquarium, Field Museum and more). But keep your eye out for conventions, which can really gum up the works. Winters tend to be cheaper and summer weekends high. Don't expect rock-bottom rates, ever. If you can get something under $150 per night, you're beating the odds.
