  1. 'American Idol': Top 7 perform songs from the movies

    Reality Check
Tonight's theme on American Idol is songs from the movies, which explains why Quentin Tarantino is there. He's apparently a superfan, and he even gets to join the Top 7 on stage for the uber-dramatic intro today. Before the singing, Simon......

  3. The Oscars telecast's rocky road

Last night's Oscars were like an emotional roller-coaster at a terrible amusement park--beginning wth Seth MacFarlane's as-bad-as-feared monologue, the show rarely rose above painful and hit few peaks. Allow us to relive some of the night's best and worst moments, not necessarily in that order.

  7. Partying with Oscar

WEST HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — When Chris Tucker and Jon Voight are grooving side by side to Rick James' "Give It To Me, Baby," you know the surreal dream that is the Vanity Fair post-Oscars party is playing out again.

  9. Overlooked screenplays this Oscar season

In 1945 Raymond Chandler wrote a screed against Hollywood, and Hollywood screenwriting, for the Atlantic Monthly. "An industry with such vast resources and such magic techniques should not become dull so soon," said the man who later characterized his adopted residence to the south, La Jolla, Calif., as "nothing but a climate." In the Atlantic he vented: "An art which is capable of making all but the very best plays look trivial and contrived, all but the very best novels verbose and imitative, should not so quickly become wearisome to those who attempt to practice it with something else in mind than the cash drawer."

  11. What to expect from Seth MacFarlane's debut outing as Oscar host

A year after Billy Crystal helmed the Oscars for approximately the 40 millionth time, hosting duties fall to “Family Guy” creator Seth MacFarlane, who’s directed a grand total of one movie and had a minor role alongside Dwayne Johnson (and Crystal) in “Tooth Fairy.”

  13. Both sides at fault on gun control controversy

So the nuts are falling from the left and from the right, and this strange winter of discontent on the issue of gun control has led to the cancellation of North America's largest consumer-oriented outdoors show: not gun show, mind you, but outdoors show....

  15. New Year's resolutions I'd like to hear

    Arianna Huffington
Happy New Year! May your 2013 be filled with love, laughter, passion and 365 full nights of sleep. Through the years, I've discovered something about New Year's resolutions: While it's not so easy to keep them, it's very easy to make them for other...

This Thursday brings my annual morning of being excited and nervous and telling myself I won’t yell at the TV. And then doing it anyway.

  19. Predictions: Golden Globes 2013--movies

No matter who wins or loses Sunday, the 2013 Golden Globes ceremony obviously will be awesome because Tiny Fey and Amy Poehler are hosting. Really: That should be enough to make even the most awards show-averse movie/TV fans tune in.

  21. How I spent my sick days

Recently, after a couple of days of feeling a bit run down, I groused to my wife that I didn't feel bad enough to miss work, just bad enough to make work a lot harder than usual. "It might be nice to feel bad enough to have to stay home," I said sardonically.
