  1. Movie Review: 12 Rounds

Although basically an excuse to string together a giant-sized popcorn's worth of high-octane set pieces, "12 Rounds" is escapist fun that provides an effective showcase for the blue-collar charisma and bulky good looks of its hyper-athletic lead, four-...

  3. Movie review: 12 Rounds -- 2 out of 5 stars

    Orlando Sentinel Movie Critic
Renny Harlin, who hasn't had a hit since he divorced Geena Davis, was the right guy to lift World Wrestling Entertainment's infant film division to something closer to legitimacy. If anybody could shoot and cut an action film to hide wrassler John Cena'...

Let us read now from The Book of Damnation, from which so many "clues" to the mystery of The Covenant are revealed. Thou shalt creep thy audience out, with, if all else fails, spiders. Thou shalt cast thy fantasy with all manner of hotties, male and...

Friday February 12, 1999      If you do something often enough, you're likely to get better at it. Even if it's playing the fool.      Brendan Fraser has done well by acting dumb. As the title character in the successful "George of the Jungle," he was...

  19. Movie review: 'Mindhunters'

    Tribune staff reporter
½ star (out of 4) Mark my words: "Mindhunters" will do for psycho-thrillers what "Showgirls" did for stripper movies. Near the beginning of Renny Harlin's unintentionally hilarious film, a table of young, attractive FBI trainees, out for a post-drill...

  23. 'Dominion: Prequel to the Exorcist'

"If at first you don't succeed, try, try again" may be advice film producers would be wise to ignore. After sinking a reported $40 million into a Paul Schrader-directed prequel to the 1973 horror hit "The Exorcist," Morgan Creek Chief Executive James Robinson shelved that version and brought in director Renny Harlin — known as much for his duds ("Cutthroat Island," "Mindhunters") as his hits ("Die Hard 2," "Cliffhanger") — to reshoot it at considerable expense. Harlin's film, titled "Exorcist: The Beginning," was released last August to poor reviews and negligible box office.
