"There are things you can get away with in this world, and things you can't."
"There are things you can get away with in this world, and things you can't." The voice is Matthew McConaughey's, and days after seeing him in "Mud," I can close my eyes and hear him still — a simple line echoing with the mysteries of a man caught...

5. Quick Takes: Memphis soul celebrated

7. Oscars winners 2013: Anne Hathaway did it her way

This one gives me pause. Anne Hathaway is a fine young actress. The dignity and humility with which she comports herself off-screen is admirable and has made her an academy favorite.

9. Oscars 2013: Celebration of music starts with 'We Saw Your Boobs'

"Tonight, for the first time, the Oscars have a theme," Seth MacFarlane said at the start of this year's Academy Awards, adding that Sunday night's show would be celebrating the marriage of film and music. Moments later, the host was cavorting around the stage singing a song that seemed pulled from the writers room at his animated series "Family Guy" rather than one built for the regal Oscar proceedings.

15. Oscars 2013: MacFarlane opens the show both crude and polished

Less than five minutes into Seth MacFarlane’s opening monologue Sunday evening, the raunch humor-prone “Family Guy” creator dropped the kind of transgressive comedy cluster bomb many pop watchers had been anticipating.

21. The Gold Standard: Bet a penny on Day-Lewis as Lincoln?

"I am 10 years older than I was a year ago." We believe that's a line Abraham Lincoln said to Gen. Ulysses S. Grant at the end of "Lincoln." Or it could be something "Lincoln" lead Daniel Day-Lewis wearily muttered during one of the endless Q&As he's done during a long campaign of an altogether different sort than the one fought for the Union. What can we say? The lines are blurring at this point, though we're still fairly confident that the great Day-Lewis will put his own stamp on history next month, becoming the first actor to win three Oscars for a lead performance. An early snapshot of the four acting races:

23. Oscars 2013: At nominees lunch, a relaxed vibe and a surprise DJ

Ben Affleck shared his tips for how to win an Oscar pool. Steven Spielberg hoisted an elaborate floral centerpiece off his table so he could better see his fellow lunch guests (including the youngest lead actress nominee, Quvenzhané Wallis). And 66-year-old uber-producer Frank Marshall ("The Curious Case of Benjamin Button") deejayed the whole affair.
