  1. Movie Review: Johnny English Reborn

Frankly My Dear - Orlando Sentinel
One thing we can conclude conclusively from Rowan Atkinson's second big screen outing as Johnny English. He would have been a FAR superior revived Inspector Clouseau to Steve Martin's embarrassing take on the guy. But “Johnny English Reborn,”...

  7. Movie Review: Centurion

Frankly My Dear - Orlando Sentinel
The “soldiers trapped behind enemy lines” story has been a favorite since Xenophon followed Greeks home from deep in hostile Persia in “Anabasis,” in 400 B.C. That's the plot of “Centurion,” an old–fashioned quest...

  9. EXCLUSIVE: Rosamund Pike talks about cars and ‘Johnny English Reborn’

Frankly My Dear - Orlando Sentinel
Paging “Top Gear.” Who would have guessed that tall, stately and “posh” British actress Rosamund Pike is a bit of a “petrol head,” as they say in the UK? It's the sort of thing that comes up when you switch the...

  13. 'The Wire' loses spark in newsroom storyline

    Sun television critic
Writing about the past four seasons of HBO's The Wire has been one of the great pleasures of this job. But reviewing the fifth and final season, which begins next Sunday on the premium cable channel, is more of a mixed blessing. It's not that the...

  15. 'The Wire' finale is a cop-out for a once-great show

    Sun Television Critic
David Simon wrote a brilliant finale for The Wire. Unfortunately, it was in 2004 at the end of Season 3 - not the 90-minute final episode of the Baltimore-based drama that will air tonight on HBO.Four years ago, series creator Simon wrote a season-...

  17. Movie review: Punisher: War Zone -- 1 out of 5 stars

    Orlando Sentinel Movie Critic
With Punisher: War Zone, Thomas Jane, the actor with two first names and little acting talent, looks like the smartest guy in the room. He didn't return to the vigilante film series after making one awful movie four years ago. To re-boot the DOA Punisher...

  19. Fall '07: The British Are Coming

    Zap2It.com
So the old Paul Revere line was one if by land, two if by TiVo, right? TV viewers can prepare themselves for a glut of British and Australian actors starring in new series, and playing Americans, next season. A dozen actors from those two countries --...

  21. 6 degrees of separation in Oscar race?

HOLLYWOOD -- bright lights, big city . . . small town? Apparently so, if you look at this year's Oscar acting nominations. The Screen Actors Guild may have some 120,000 members, but this year's nominees seem to be swimming in an awfully small bowl. So, in a tip of the top hat to the never-been-nominated Kevin Bacon, we went fishing for six or fewer degrees of separation among the class of 2008. Our goal: connect each lead actor contender with one of his actress counterparts, and each supporting actress with one of her supporting brethren. Mostly we used professional matchups, but personal entanglements were fair game too. Bacon even figured into a connection. Most interesting challenges: French newcomer Marion Cotillard and youngster Saoirse Ronan. Oh, and feel free to jump in any time . . .
