Old media meets new media, and they like each other

It started out as a titanic clash between old and new media — and sort of petered out. Earlier this year, Google Inc. and Viacom settled what had been billed as a landmark lawsuit over alleged copyright violations at YouTube, which Google acquired in 2006. Terms of the settlement were not disclosed. When cable powerhouse Viacom filed the lawsuit in 2007, established media giants were trying to figure out how to combat the disruption to business models caused by rising digital media — a disruption the video-streaming behemoth YouTube helped click into motion. But in the last few years, Viacom and others in the TV elite have come around to the idea of hitting the play button....
