1. 'The X Factor' recap: Emblem 3 is cut in surprising results

For a while there, it looked like there might be a major shocker on "The X Factor" results show on Thursday night. (And I don't mean L.A. Reid's announcement, shortly before the show aired, that he would not be returning as a judge/mentor next season.) Had the insta-girl group Fifth Harmony, a major longshot even their hyper-confident mentor, Simon Cowell, was gobsmacked to see make it through to the finals, knocked favorite Carly Rose Sonenclar, who had had a less-than-stellar night on Wednesday, out of the competition?

  3. 'The X Factor' recap: Four acts sing in the semifinals

The four remaining acts on "The X Factor" -- Tate Stevens, Carly Rose Sonenclar, Emblem 3 and Fifth Harmony -- performed two songs apiece in an unnecessarily attenuated two-hour semifinal show Wednesday night. The first song each act sang was of their own choice; the other was selected either by or with input from the mentors.

  5. 'The X Factor' recap: Two talents tossed as top 6 move on

This season of "The X Factor," from which Paige Thomas and Vino Alan were only somewhat surprisingly eliminated on Thursday night, as the top eight dwindled to the top six, often comes off as a strange, seat-of-the-pants affair – an overproduced,...

  7. 'The X Factor' recap: Carly Rose Sonenclar stands out

We're finally nearing the finish line on "The X Factor," with only weeks left before the Season 2 finale. Can I get a Hallelujah? (And I don't mean the Leonard Cohen song that has become a standard on these singing-competition shows, though come to think of it, it wouldn't be a bad song choice for Carly Rose Sonenclar.)

  9. 'The X Factor' recap: CeCe Frey and Diamond White are out

Well, that's a relief. CeCe Frey finally left "The X Factor" Thursday night, and we didn't even have to hear her sing again. Perhaps this new system of unceremoniously dropping one contestant early on elimination night and then focusing on the two acts...

  13. 'X-Factor': So bad you should be watching? [Google+ Hangout]

Right about this time last week a social network chorus sprung up surrounding Lindsay Lohan's "Liz & Dick." You must watch, said folks in the media, folks on Twitter and folks on Facebook, because it is so bad it's hilarious. They were wrong. They confused the word "boring" with "hilarious."

  17. 'The X Factor' recap: The top 8 tackle No. 1 hits

The top 8 contestants on "The X Factor" tackled No. 1 songs this week and spent a lot of time talking about making it to No. 1 in the competition and nabbing the win. Throughout the evening, we were often reminded of the stakes -- a $5-million recording contract, in case you'd somehow forgotten -- and the fact that only one contender would walk away with it.

The distress call came Sunday around 1 p.m.: emergency in Beverly Hills. Someone was being held hostage at "Simon Cowell's." The victim, reported a female caller, was tied up with duct tape inside a bathroom at the brash British "X Factor" judge's hillside mansion.
