  3. Why some TV shows only film exterior scenes in Chicago

The Chicago-based Showtime dramedy "Shameless" can either be seen as a small victory for Chicago's TV and film community or a missed opportunity, depending on how you want to look at it.

  7. The most dangerous jobs in Chicago--and the state

"Chicago Fire" is a new TV series that chronicles firefighters facing life and death on the job, while "Chicago Code" was about cops fighting crime and danger in the city. But the really dangerous jobs in the Chicago area don't involve guns or fires or even criminals.

  9. TV review: 'Last Resort' an implausible thrill ride

A lot of viewers aren't going to like the military drama "Last Resort" (<em>7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 27, ABC; 3.5 stars out of 4</em>). They'll probably dismiss it for its crazy premise, its characters' speechifying and its multiple subplots.

  17. Covering Chicago by covering "Boss"

I spent a full day on the set with the "Boss" cast and crew when they were filming here this summer, and I walked away with the distinct impression that the series would not fall into some of the same traps that hampered Fox's "The Chicago Code" or so many other cinematic portrayals of the city -- the kind that invariably include a corny line such as "That's how we do it in Chicago" spoken in a mangled Chicago accent.
