'Pirates of Penzance' vs. 'The Pirate Movie'

<b>Year</b>: Late '82/early '83<br>
<br>
<b>Premise</b>: Movie adaptations of the famous Gilbert & Sullivan operetta<br>
<br>
<b>The Verdict</b>: You've maybe heard of the <a class="taxInlineTagLink" id="PECLB002825" title="Kevin Kline" href="/topic/entertainment/kevin-kline-PECLB002825.topic">Kevin Kline</a>-Angela Landsbury-<a class="taxInlineTagLink" id="PECLB003576" title="Linda Ronstadt" href="/topic/entertainment/music/linda-ronstadt-PECLB003576.topic">Linda Ronstadt</a> version of "Pirates of Penzance," but did you know there was a movie released just a few months earlier starring <a class="taxInlineTagLink" id="PECLB003193" title="Kristy McNichol" href="/topic/entertainment/kristy-mcnichol-PECLB003193.topic">Kristy McNichol</a> and the guy from "The Blue Lagoon" in "Pirates-of-Penzance"-goes-1980s? Oh, yes. The former saw a <a class="taxInlineTagLink" id="EVHST0000228" title="Golden Globe Awards" href="/topic/entertainment/golden-globe-awards-EVHST0000228.topic">Golden Globe</a> nom for Ronstadt, while the latter earned three Razzie wins out of nine nominations - including a win for Worst Song for "Pumpin and Blowin." We cannot make this stuff up. Edge: "Pirates of Penzance," by the biggest margin in this gallery. Though ... "The Pirate Movie" is worth a watch for the humor factor.<br>
