Fred Landers: Class 6A-5A-4A Broward County boys basketball Player of the Year
Statistics: 18.0 points per game, 10.0 rebounds per game
Season highlights: The University of North Florida signee came into the year expecting opponents to target him with plenty of defensive pressure. So he focused on improving his perimeter game and ball-handling skills. The effort paid off as Landers became one of Dillard's most consistent performers. He scored 30 in the Panthers' 80-73 victory over Ely in the BCAA Big 8 and had 21 points and 18 rebounds in a win over Northeast. With Landers, a Sun-Sentinel preseason Fab Five selection, Dillard claimed the BCAA Big 8 championship, finished with a 23-4 record and advanced to the regional semifinals before being eliminated by eventual state champion Dwyer.
Athlete's comment: "I knew coming into the season, that I was going to have to make sure I didn't let the recognition or pressure get to me. Last year, I was a dominant post player and this year, I wanted to work on my ball-handling and my shooting because I knew once the season started, that would come in handy. I wanted to be a versatile player."
