Carey’s exhibit is called “In Hamlet’s Shadow: Self-Portraits as Photo-Lithographs – 1987.” Carey describes the work in an artist statement: “Her self-portraits as doubles were stand-ins for humanity, schemas color-coded to suggest the most expansive and mysterious backdrop of all — the cosmos — a different kind of “other” in tandem with— drawing with light — a photographic phrase.”
Dziadik’s show is called “From Under My Bed.” On fineartamerica.com, Dziadik writes “I consider my self a colorist. ... My goal is to create a convincing depiction of reality by the illusionistic handling of paint; reality represented by the abstract stroke of a brush. Also the works are an attempt to change what you perceive by mild to wild color.”
The works will be up from Thursday, Sept. 27 to Wednesday, Jan. 9, 2013. Gallery hours are 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily.
