Jim Calhoun took over as coach of the UConn men's basketball team in 1986. Since then, there have been 21 different games where Calhoun has either missed all or part of the game because of various health-related reasons, during which the Huskies have posted a 17-4 record.

Connecticut associate head coach George Blaney took over coaching duties for Jim Calhoun who was hospitalized over night with stomach problems on Thursday, March 19, 2009. The Huskies' defeated the Chattanooga Mocs 103-47 in the first round of the NCAA men's college basketball tournament at the Wachovia Center in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
