SAN ANTONIO—— Sophia Young scored 19 points to lead the San Antonio Silver Stars to a 79-66 victory over the Connecticut Sun on Tuesday night.
The Silver Stars wasted an early 11-point lead but outscored the Sun 31-18 over the final 14 minutes for their first victory over a winning team this season.
Rookie Tina Charles had 16 points and 12 rebounds, setting a franchise record with her 13th double-double. But, she said, "you can't really focus on yourself when your team loses."
The Sun were 2-for-13 (15.4 percent) on three-point attempts, their worst performance of the season.
Tan White scored 17 points in her first start for the Sun (10-7), which lost for the first time in six games against the West and dropped to 2-2 on its six-game road trip.
"We didn't get stops down the stretch," White said. "We have to be more aggressive on the defensive end. … You can't let a team playing at home have a good shooting night like that."
Michelle Snow scored 14 points, Becky Hammon had 12 and Chamique Holdsclaw 11 for San Antonio (6-9), which came in with an 0-4 mark against Eastern opponents.
