UConn finalized its 2013 football schedule Tuesday after the Big East confirmed spots for new conferences members.
UConn, 5-7 this past season, will play a beefed-up, seven-game home schedule that includes nonleague games against Towson State (Aug. 29), Maryland (Sept. 14) and Michigan (Sept. 21). The Huskies went 3-3 in six home games in 2012, failing to sell out any of them.
In Big East games, the Huskies will host Louisville, Rutgers, South Florida and new conference member San Diego State.
Four of the Huskies home opponents are in bowl games this year. Louisville (Sugar), Rutgers (Russell Athletic), San Diego State (S.D. County Credit Union) and Michigan (Outback) are still playing. The Huskies missed a bowl for a second consecutive year.
"I am very excited for the home schedule that our football team will play in 2013 and I think our fans should be, too," director of athletics Warde Manuel said. "As I continue to say, it is important for UConn to have the Rentschler Field full for every game. Our football team will be working hard to prepare for the 2013 season and we need the support from our loyal Husky followers more than ever."
The dates for the conference games are expected to be announced in early 2013.
UConn's lone nonconference road game will be at Buffalo (Sept. 28). In conference road games, the Huskies play Cincinnati (going to the Belk Bowl), new Big East members Southern Methodist (Sheraton Hawaii), Central Florida (Beef O'Brady's) and Temple.
Boise State, the marquee school joining the conference, won't play UConn next year.
The Big East will be split into East and West divisions. UConn is in the East with UCF, Cincinnati, Louisville, Rutgers and USF. Boise State, San Diego State, Houston, Memphis, SMU and Temple make up the West.
