1. PETA wishes Beyonce had not worn leather at the Super Bowl

At Sunday's Super Bowl, Beyonce wore costumes that incorporated leather and exotic iguana and snakeskin. People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals wishes she hadn't. And that she hadn't worn a fur coat to President Obama's inauguration in January, either. "We would take a bet that if Beyoncé watched our video exposés, she'd probably not want to be seen again in anything made of snakes, lizards, rabbits or other animals who died painfully," The organization reportedly said in a statement. "Today's fashions are trending toward humane vegan options, and Beyoncé's Super Bowl outfit missed the mark on that score." [The Cut]

  3. Taking raw beyond copycat cuisine

The kimchi dumplings at Matthew Kenney's M.A.K.E. restaurant in Santa Monica might be the poster dish for modern raw cuisine: origami-like bundles of cashews, pickled cabbage and tahini, packaged in wrappers made with dehydrated coconut purée mixed with cilantro juice so that they're bright green, and served with sesame-ginger foam, nasturtium flowers and micro-cilantro. Hello to the new raw food.

A new juice bar named Clover is set to open on La Brea on Thursday. The shop's main draw is its cold-pressed juices, each of which, it claims, will pack the nutritional equivalent of three pounds of produce. There will also be kombucha on tap, Stumptown coffee, wheatgrass shots and various cleanse programs for detoxification.

To understand Red Hill, Jason Michaud and Trevor Rocco's newish place in a converted Chinese bakery just north of Sunset, you could do worse than to look at the bread-and-butter plate, a once-free nicety that has evolved into an item of competition in L.A.'s new surge of small-plates restaurants.

  23. Las Vegas: Vegans, get ready for a feast

There's only a one-letter difference between "Vegas" and "vegan," but until recently the two could not have been further apart. For years, the best herbivore option in Sin City has been a nondescript shop on Spring Mountain Road called Ronald's Donuts that sells vegan doughnuts.
